STEVE ROBERTS
I was born in 1969, Stoke On Trent, England, clutching a pencil
in my chubby little hand (much to the discomfort of my mother)
and I have spent a ridiculous amount of time over the years
rubbing that pencil against paper to create art. I left school 2
weeks off my 16th birthday with my various qualifications tucked
under my belt and decided to get a 'proper' job for a short time,
get some money behind me and then I would pursue a career in
some form of artwork. I was looking at 12 to 18 months tops.
Its now 23 years, 1 failed marriage and 4 kids later with my
40th birthday hurtling towards me (June 2009) having been made
redundant from the company that I have worked at for 23 years,
fate has dragged me out of a rut and given me the opportunity to
make that, much dreamed of, career change.
I know I am coming into this as the underdog with so many great
established caricature artists to choose from and although I have
drawn consistently through my life I am a self taught artist and
a fresh face on the professional scene I have no client list to show
off nor a BA honours from a fine art academy, I have a God given
talent that I love to work with and examples of my work to show
off and May 2008 is when I launch my professional career as a
studio based, digital caricature artist starting with gift caricatures,
created from photographs sold through my website. All that you
need to do is send me a photograph of your victim...(oops, sorry,
chosen subject) and choose the type of caricature that you want
and leave the rest to me.
As for where my career takes me, well this is just the beginning.....
